What is Ayurveda?

Ayurveda is broken down into two parts. The word means life knowledge, science of live or science of longevity. It is an ancient Indian practice that is thousands of years old and is one of the oldest medical practices that is still complete. The foundation of this practice is the 5 great elements or the pancha maha bhutas which are ether, air, fire, water and earth. These 5 elements break down into what are called the 3 doshas. Dosha means that which is at fault or that which changes. They are vata, pitta and kapha. Everything including us is made up of the 5 elements and these 3 doshas. When any of the doshas are imbalanced, it shows up in our bodies. The things that cause the imbalance are diet and lifestyle. Through yoga and Ayurveda we are working to correct these imbalances by making dietary and lifestyle changes that will support healthy living

The Process

Both yoga and ayurveda are a process in and of themselves. They are both life practices that take time, effort and energy. The goal of yoga is self-realization and the goal of ayurveda is optimal living. Neither one is going to happen overnight. If you are interested in living your practice and moving toward the above result the best place to start is with a 1:1 consultation and private yoga session. In this session we will look at your history in terms of diet and lifestyle and see where some changes can be made to find better balance. Your yoga session will be based on these changes as well as your time of life and the season in which we are working. Give yourself the gift of better health and more energy through learning how to live your practice.
